Farewell to HMS Liverpool

(March 02, 2011)

Last Friday saw Steve attending a civic reception at the Town Hall to mark the  decommissioning of HMS Liverpool.

The warship – a Type 42 Destroyer – was built by Cammell Laird and launched in 1980.  Over her career, she has been deployed in a variety of capacities to the Persian Gulf, the Caribbean, the USA and Canada.  In 2003, she took part in the Iraq War.

The ship arrived in her namesake city on Thursday, to begin a five-day ceremonial visit before sailing up the Mersey for the last time as she headed off for active deployment in the Mediterranean and the Persian Gulf later this year.

HMS Liverpool will leave service in 2012.
