Steve to attend Armed Forces Day service

(June 24, 2011)

Liverpool will honour servicemen and women this Saturday in Armed Forces day during a special service which will be attended by Walton MP Steve Rotheram, Wavertree MP Luciana Berger and serving members of the Armed Forces.

Steve said, "Our Armed Foces are the bravest and the best. My brother served for over a decade and the stories he has told me demonstrate the bravery and courage of people who go to the most difficult places in the world to fight on our behalf. In recent years thanks to documentaries and the evolution of news coverage from warzones, I think the British public have become much more aware of the job our soldiers do and the dangers they face.'

"I'm really looking forward to Saturday, I know Liverpool will do our forces proud."

On Sunday at the Cenotaph in Lord Street, the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside, Dame Lorna Muirhead, will attend a parade led by the Duke of Lancaster’s band.

Members of the Royal British Legion, Cadet Forces, Veterans’ Associations and army squadrons were among 150 people who attended a flag-raising ceremony at Wallasey town hall last Monday.
