Steve Welcomes Fire Station Foodbank(December 04, 2012)
Walton MP, Steve Rotheram is urging people who can, to donate food at the Aintree Community Fire Station.
Steve, who has been campaigning in 2012 at foodbanks across Liverpool said, "13 million people live below the poverty line in the UK.
"Save the Children's damning report this summer revealed that over 3 million children are living in poverty despite over 60% of their parents working. The report also revealed how many parents are going hungry just to ensure their children have the bare minimum to eat.
"That is why foodbanks are so important. And as the Chancellor prepares to deliver his Autumn Statement outlining the successes and failures of his economic plan, it is worth remembering that in the last financial year, foodbanks fed 128,687 people across Britain. This is no surprise when we consider the rising cost of food and fuel combined with static income, high unemployment and changes to benefits that are causing more and more people to come to foodbanks for help.
"That is why I am so grateful to the Aintree Community Fire Station for putting on a facility for the collection and donation of food. If people can go along and donate, or if people are desperately in need of food this winter, please head down. All the food collected will be given to the charity foodbank, Trussell Trust on Friday 14th December and will distributed to those who need it most across Merseyside this Christmas".
