Steve on Thatcher's Funeral

(April 17, 2013)

"I didn’t attend Lady Thatcher’s funeral. Instead I spent Wednesday morning immersed in constituency casework and catching up with the constant stream of emails and letters MPs receive each and every day. Right now issues such as the Government’s Bedroom Tax and Welfare Changes are having a detrimental impact on 2,473 housing benefit claimants in Walton alone, whilst other ConDem policies are decimating public services and wreaking havoc in households, businesses and high streets throughout the City.

"Thatcher’s funeral is now over and the public purse has taken a major hit. Whilst I don’t believe it would have been appropriate to celebrate her death, I think the Labour Party needs to redouble its efforts to bury the divisive legacy of Thatcherism for good".
