Tragic Tories Only Deluding Themselves

(September 30, 2013)

This week David Cameron and the Conservative Party will use their Conference to claim that they have turned the economy round. But in doing so they only reveal how out of touch they are.

The Tories are failing to turn things around for Britain’s hard working families. David Cameron says the economy is fixed but for ordinary people things are getting harder not easier, with prices rising faster than wages.

The Conservatives are keen to highlight a small number of claimed achievements. But this document sets out some of the facts they are not so keen to talk about.

• Wages are down an average of £1,500 a year since David Cameron became Prime Minister.

• Under the Tories we have had the slowest recovery for 100 years, with almost one million young people now out of work.

• There are over 5,000 fewer nurses in the NHS under David Cameron while he has wasted £3 billion on a damaging reorganisation.

• Average energy bills are up by £300 since David Cameron became Prime Minister. • David Cameron is making hard working families pay more than their share to bring

down the deficit, while he has cut taxes for people earning over £150,000.

Britain deserves better than this. We need action to stand up for families and businesses but instead we have a Prime Minister out of touch with the difficulties they face. He can always be relied on to stand up for the privileged few while ordinary people suffer.

Britain can do better than this.
