Nut Production Jobs Staying in Walton

Walton MP Steve Rotheram and Unite the Union are delighted to announce that the nut-production factory formerly known as Trigon Snacks, has been saved from closure at the eleventh hour.

Plans had been in place to accept an offer which would have seen the immediate dismissal of all staff and the asset stripping of the factory. However, the former Lord Mayor of Liverpool and Unite the Union have worked with the Administrators to find an alternative solution that will keep jobs in the Walton factory on Atherton Road.

Speaking after the confirmation of the sale Steve explained, "I am delighted that Unite the Union and I have successfully worked alongside administrators to save the jobs in Walton. Instead of filing into the dole queue on Monday, the workforce will be back on shift and looking forward to completing the Christmas order book.

"Over the course of the past week, I have spoken with the Business Secretary Vince Cable's office and the Shadow Business Secretary Chuka Umunna who both supported the action Unite and I were taking to save these jobs.

"I am grateful to the administrators Duff & Phelps who have worked tirelessly to ensure the work force was retained and everyone kept their job.

"This serves as a first-class example of how important and effective a force Trade Unions and Labour MPs can be for hardworking people when we work together".
