Steve Rotheram has called on the Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt MP, to personally intervene in a bid to secure long-term investment for mesothelioma research following recent parliamentary debates and in his capacity as the Honorary President of the Merseyside Asbestos Victims Support Group.

Steve explained, “The scale of the British mesothelioma problem cannot be underestimated. The UK has the highest rate of mesothelioma in the world which means urgent and sustainable research into the disease is vitally important.

“Mesothelioma is forecast to kill over 50,000 people in the UK over the next 30 years unless new treatments are found so we need Jeremy Hunt to clearly outline his plans for funding research”.

Steve told the Health Secretary, “For the benefit of mesothelioma sufferers and their families, I must impress upon you my belief that you should give a date by which the Government will ensure that a long-term sustainable funding scheme is in place”.
