Royal Mail Rip Off

(April 02, 2014)

LCC Budget

Walton MP Steve Rotheram has weighed into the row over the Royal Mail sale after it emerged that the Prime Minister had flogged the postal service for £1.4bn less than today's market price.

The former Fazakerley councillor explained, "This proves what an amateur David Cameron is. He was desperate to follow in the footsteps of his hero Mrs Thatcher, and privatise a large industry and he chose the Royal Mail, but he didnt do it properly. When people in Liverpool pause to consider just what £1.4bn could have meant for our City, they will shudder with disbelief.

"£1.4bn is four times the amount that has been cut from Liverpool City Council's budget. When we think that this year alone, we will see £156 million cut that will result in the axing of children's and adult services as well as the closures of leisure centres, it is difficult to accept that the Prime Minister can call the Royal Mail rip off a 'good thing for Britain'.

"The massive error they have made in the Royal Mail sale will not be forgotten by people in Walton".
