Walton MP Steve Rotheram has issued a rallying cry for people across Liverpool to come forward and join the national donor register.

In conjunction with the Anthony Nolan charity, the search is underway to increase the donor register and add to the 817 names already on the bone marrow register in Liverpool Walton.

Steve explained, “Thanks to the Anthony Nolan charity, it has officially been revealed that there are more than 817 selfless people in Walton willing to donate their stem cells, or bone marrow, to save the life of a stranger. More than 525,000 people are currently on the Anthony Nolan register and the average per constituency is 796 so Walton is already above the national average but I want us to go even further.

“Every 20 minutes someone in Britain is diagnosed with blood cancer and so the imperative to find a cure has never been greater. I honestly believe that it is truly heroic to give a stranger a second chance at life. This is why I’m proud to champion this cause to my constituents.’
