Steve visits RNIB & Bradbury Fields(October 17, 2014)
Steve joined the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and Bradbury Fields to talk about the need for people to be given the right support when diagnosed with a sight problem.
In particular, the session focussed on the need for Eye Clinic Liaison Officers, who act as a bridge between the patient and medical staff and can ensure that patients get the support they need when diagnosed with sight loss, such as emotional support and referral to additional services e.g. rehabilitation.
Steve spoke to the Eye Clinic Liaison Officer based at Aintree, as well as patients, to better understand how important the service is for people when they are first diagnosed. Over the next few years, RNIB and local organisations such as Bradbury Fields will be working to try and ensure there is an ECLO service available to every patient who could benefit, both at local and national level.
