Steve speaks at North Construction Summit(July 14, 2016)
Steve Rotheram MP attended the Construction Summit North at The Point, Emirites Old Trafford Manchester. The event was the largest event outside London and attracted approximatley 300-400 delegates who were able to vote live at the event on various issues to fully inform debates.
The event presented an oppportunity to inform the Government of issues and threats to the construction industry and the significant impact it has on regional and national economies. The event also addressed the key issues of growth, procurement innovation, skills and training.
The event discussed a number of points including how it has become increasingly more improtant to enable Northern businesses to have an outlet to try and understand how and where the policy being made affects them and how they in turn can affect policy especially with talk of devolved power to the North.
Steve Rotheram MP was a speaker on the panel made up of specalist in a range of sectors talking primarily about what the construction sector should do to shield itself from the usual economic pressure, with the main focus topics of the panel being on current and future work practices, labour requirement and skills and access to training and funding for skills. As well the current construction sector support need to make sure that this becomes that this can become a reality and also the role of Northern Powerhouses, devolved local government and central government.
