Fixed Term Parliaments Bill (November 17, 2010)
The Government's Fixed Term Parliaments Bill is currently passing through the House. It proposes that General Elections, which can currently be called at any time and tend to take place around every four years, should in future be held at fixed five year intervals.
In Commons debates, arguments have been put forward for three, four and five year parliamentary terms.
