Steve Blames Cameron & May for “Gambling with public safety.”

Liverpool Walton MP, Steve Rotheram, has reacted to the news that the levels of robbery, theft, and violence against other people, is up by a shocking 11 per cent.

Steve explained, “These figures are deeply worrying and show this it is an irresponsible time to cut 16,000 police officers.

"Personal crime - which includes robbery, theft and violence against other people - has gone up by a shocking 11 per cent. This is the biggest annual increase in personal crime for over a decade and follows a 43% drop during the Labour government. Yet the Home Secretary still has no strategy to cut personal crime and is only cutting police officers instead.

“The Consertaives like to portrary themselves as the party of law and order and yet on their watch,overall crime has risen by 4% increase.

“This is in stark contrast to when Labour left office when there were record numbers of police on the street, over 16,500 more than in 1997 in addition to over 16,000 new PCSOs.”

He continued, “Helped by the record number of police officers, crime fell by 43 per cent under Labour and the chance of being a victim of crime was at the lowest since records began.

“We had a clear plan to find savings of around 12% over the course of this Parliament, which Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary said could be achieved without impacting on the frontline. The Conservative Government is implementing cuts of 20% which is a staggering gamble with public safety.”
