Steve Nominated for Speech of the Year (May 22, 2012)
Liverpool Walton MP, Steve Rotheram, has been nominated for MP Speech of the Year for his contribution during the debate on the Hillsborough Tragedy.
Steve's citation reads, "The first ever parliamentary debate on the Hillsborough disaster came about via the Backbench Business Committee and an e-petition which gathered 140,000 signatures in a little over two weeks. However it was the incredibly powerful opening speech by the newbie MP for Liverpool Walton that put the issue in such stark contrast."
During the speech Steve explained, "In the 22 years for which the families have fought their dignified campaign, I and the rest of Britain have watched as my great city has come together on this issue. Out of the darkness of the Hillsborough tragedy, an eternal flame of unity has emerged and means that Liverpool is now synonymous with a unique kind of solidarity. Whether red or blue, we are Scousers all..."
