Political party systems in the United Kingdom

Steve Rotheram 2019-06-05 Police

The United Kingdom has a typical two-party system. This does not mean that there are no other parties, but it expresses the fact that there are two main and largest parties. The main parties are Labor and Conservative, which share the majority of the voting population among themselves.

The most influential personality in the party is the party leader. The leader elects the party’s party composition. The selection from the first round requires 50% of the votes of the parliamentary composition and 15% of votes more than any other candidate. If this condition is not met, more candidates may also appear in the second round. If an absolute majority is not provided, it goes to the third round, which sets out the top three candidates and an alternative voice method.

Conservative party

It was created in 1867, although some consider it to be the year of its creation in 1830, when a party group in parliament called it conservative. After the Second World War, the Conservative Party was one of the largest not only British but also European parties. It is a bourgeois party, supported by higher strata of society, aristocracy that still has a certain influence, rich layers, and big businessmen and farmers. Some of these parties were treated as “rich against the poor”.

In its orientation, the Conservative Party is a typical capitalist party. It is committed to private property, free competition and the market, responsibility towards the family, neighborhood, consider the role of the state to strengthen individual freedoms, advocates the booming business …

Laburistic Party

It was founded in London in 1900, under the title of the Representative Committee of Labor, and in 1906 it was given the present name. It was formed in London by numerous prosocialist groups, in order to organize the elections. It is a predominantly labor party, socialistically oriented. The aim of the party is to provide the workers with the full fruit of their work and the most fruitful distribution of these fruits. It does not seek radical revolutionary changes, but advocates a peaceful path and focuses on the emergence of economic issues and the improvement of the material position of the working class and other layers.

Membership in a labor party can be individually and collectively. Collectively in the form of various organizations and trade unions. The Labor Party has not only emerged, it still functions as a federation, or a coalition of certain groups, while it is a conservative, unique party. The Labor Party is one of the more organized parties. As far as funding is concerned, the basic contributions come from trade unions, membership fees paid by trade union members make up about 80% of the funds.

Brexit 101

Brexit is a word that is used as an abbreviation for the United Kingdom from the European Union – combining the words of Britain and exit to get the word Brexit, much like the possible exit of Greece from the EU in the past was called Grexit. Why does Britain want to leave the EU […]

Steve’s statement on Merseyside Police cuts

Merseyside Police   I agree with the concerns many Walton constituents raise on cuts to the Police. I meet regularly with the Chief Superintendent in our area who fully appreciates the issues you highlight.   I thought it might be helpful to outline some of the interventions I have taken to represent the thoughts of […]
